Hangout On Air: Dr. Sheryl Lewin Discusses Microtia Ear Surgery & Bone Anchored Hearing Devices

Dr. Sheryl Lewin is a Craniofacial trained Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who has dedicated her career to ear reconstruction, specializing in Microtia ear surgery using the Medpor technique. Her artistic approach and innovative surgical techniques have helped minimize scarring and create more natural appearing ears.

On May 28 at 6pm PST, we hosted a Google+ Hangout On Air with Dr. Lewin about her work. Dr. Lewin discussed simultaneous Microtia ear reconstruction surgery with bone anchored hearing device implants. She also shared more about what the Medpor technique is, a case and took your questions.

Each tech tip shares a free and unique social way to share your story and experience the stories of others. This week, we’re covering how to record your own video. The process is quick and simple. And, knowing how will help you share your story and participate in our video entry contests–like this one Let’s dive in, here’s how you can record your own video.  There are a few different ways you can record your own video to share.

  1. Smartphone
  2. The Photobooth program on a Mac
  3. Movie Maker on a PC photo (1)

We’ll start with the first option– recording video on your phone.

First, go to your camera application and find the option to choose whether you’d like to take a picture or video; scroll over and select the video recorder.

How Does Your Ponto Streamer Work for You?

When we spoke with Ponto Plus user Amy Mackey last week, she shared how she was using the Ponto Streamer for our video chat. Hearing Tech on A Tech Legend: Guy Kawasaki talks to Oticon Medical about Experience with Ménière’s Disease, his Ponto Plus and Social Media

Thirty years ago, Guy Kawasaki was the chief evangelist for Apple. As he explains it, “When I saw what Macintosh could do, the clouds parted and the angels started singing.” Since leaving Apple, Guy has founded several companies (including software developers ACIUS and Fog City Software, venture capital fund Garage Technology Ventures, and online magazine rack Alltop), established a career in consulting and public speaking, and written twelve books. Currently he is the chief evangelist of an online graphic design service called Canva.

Today, we’re focusing on a lesser known fact– Guy is also a Ponto user. Guy sat down with us to share more about his experience with hearing loss, his light-hearted perspective on having Ménière’s disease and his passion for social media.

If you’ve read one of Guy’s twelve books, his blog or one of the many articles he’s written or been featured in, you may have heard him mention Ménière’s disease. For Guy and many others, it came along with hearing loss, tinnitus and vertigo. “I have Ménière’s disease, and one symptom is tinnitus, so I listen to ringing in my ears 24/7 x 365. But, for me, the vertigo was the worst.”
